Write the Narrative Before You Redesign the Website

Redesigns fail when they treat the site as a visual problem. The real work happens upstream, in the story.
A website redesign is the most expensive way to discover that you never agreed on your story.
Start with the narrative spine: the shift happening in the market, the cost of ignoring it, and the role your company plays. Every page then has a job to do inside that arc.
When the narrative is settled, design gets faster and cheaper — because the arguments happen in a document, not in a layout review.
